Offline-first operations checklist
Define the work that can continue without a connection and how records become authoritative after sync.
Bound the offline workflow
List the specific tasks permitted during an outage. Separate work that can be queued locally from actions that need a current authoritative record. Agree the device data limit and what the user sees when that limit is reached.
- Permitted offline tasks and roles
- Local data fields and expiry
- Visible connection and queue state
- Device loss and sign-out behavior
- Scanner and label hardware checks
Specify conflict handling
Use representative conflicts in the prototype: two devices update the same stock item, a queued task fails validation, or a user's permission changes while disconnected. Name the reviewer and show the evidence needed to accept, reject, or correct the update.
- Conflict detection and review queue
- No silent overwrite of important records
- Retry and duplicate handling
- Supervisor approval history
- Clear authoritative record after reconciliation
Rehearse recovery
Acceptance should include interrupted sync, repeated reconnects, expired sessions, and a device with a full queue. Reconcile a known test set from local entries through server records and accounting exports. Record the recovery steps in a runbook.
